Harbin, China

The Chinese don’t mess around when it comes to the world’s largest snow and ice festival.

This winter break, I had the good fortune of being in Harbin during the Snow & Ice Winter Festival to see this breath-taking display of sculptures. Like, seriously AMAZING. Previously, the largest ice sculptures I saw were in Ottawa during Winterlude, comparing that to this is like comparing a golf cart to an SUV. We spent a good 2 hours walking around all the various displays and still did not see all of the various buildings and castles.

Honorable shoutout to the two hotels we stayed at. One was freezing and we used the blowdryer as heat, and the other one where the door to the washroom was made of glass. Clear glass.

There’s not much to add that the pictures can’t do better so here they are!

This was maybe 1/4 of the entire park area.
*quietly whispers “holy shit” to self*
Enjoy this blurry photo of me biking on the ice.
Did we sit in these and spun around like children? Yes.
After this trip, I’m even more grateful for the life I lead. It’s impossible to see how the average person lives in Harbin and not be slapped in the face with all the privileges I enjoy. If you’re looking for a winter holiday destination, I highly highly recommend a stop by Harbin.
