January 2020 Spendings: 1279.89

Finance review: January 2020

Happy new year again! Who could have predicted 2019-nCoV coming a month ago? If you can, please contact me and consider becoming my investment advisor.

Hahahahahahahaha

Being Canadian-Chinese, the December-early-February period is the double whammy of holiday periods. Gifts, another trip, and last-minute changes make for a pricey combo. However, despite all of life’s surprises I still managed to save and have a good time πŸ‘Œ.

Spending Report: $1279.89

Nothing surprising here. Some ‘wasteful’ expenses were travel insurance, and activewear I didn’t end up using due to coronavirus cancelled plans. Now I’m extra insured for another 4 days and can take out the garbage in cutting-edge sweat-wicking, ankle-supporting, heat-retaining comfort πŸ§—πŸ»β€β™€οΈ. Come at me, winter.

I would be curious to see what my February spendings would be like as I’m under quarantine* and people I’d usually hang out with are all away. I’m gonna see just how low I can get it without compromising my quality of life too much. 🀞Here’s to hoping I don’t resort to internet shopping to alleviate boredom.

Net Worth Update: $80,128

I (very briefly) hit the $80k milestone! Between January 31st and February 1st, the market dropped $600 and put me under $80k — buuuuutt the finance review is end-of-month only so I’m going to count this as a technical win.

80k CAD = 60.4k USD = 45.8k GBP, you’re welcome, my international friends.

With the situation progressing how it will in China, it’s hard to say what will happen. Either way, it has very little impact on my day to day life so I’m going to ignore it, and I suggest you do the same.

High Lights

  • Bought some stuff to help with ergonomisizing (shut up, dictionary, words are a social construct) my workspace because I use a laptop.
  • At least I’m under quarantine in a place where I don’t pay rent and can have free food delivered to me.

* My work campus is under lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus so no going in or out. Food, groceries, and purchases are still able to be delivered however so my friend’s hamster is more pet, less food, for now.
