Finance Review: June 2021

Reached my goal for this year* 2 months ahead of schedule!

I still want to take a year off soon, unsure when but maybe when my master’s is done? It’ll be a really nice treat after subjecting myself to hours of extra math every night.

Spendings Report: $901

For one without savings look at the featured image of this post.

After a few months of >$1000 spendings, I feel a lot better about this month’s numbers. It’s time to stop living in denial and just admit that I’ve fallen to lifestyle creep and my new “normal” will probably hover just over $1k on average. I will take that into account when setting next year’s money goals.

The largest category was leisure–I dug into the numbers a bit more and about 90% of it was bouldering related in the form of entry fees, transport there and back, and meals after bouldering. I’ve tried a few different bouldering gyms now and I’ve got two favourites, in the future I’ll just buy bulk passes from them instead of the single-passes I’ve been mostly using so far.

At some point I’ll upload a video of me completing another route here.

Net Worth Update: $171k and something

Here we are, I’ve reached my Net Worth goal for this school year 2 months ahead of schedule 🙂

I accidentally closed the spreadsheet that had the exact numbers so let this lack of accuracy keep you up at night.

I’m quite pleased with this and of the two months that are left, I’d like to save one month and spend the other one. Summer vacation is coming up so that will take a large chunk, probably half, then a quarter for next semester’s tuition, and the last quarter I will use to buy nicer versions of things I already own, e.g. a gym bag, running shoes etc. Perhaps a nice vacuum because I’m at that age now.

*As a teacher, I’m always referring to the school year from September to August.
