Finance Review: September 2021

As we head into winter, take care of yourselves. I always have a harder time in the colder darker months and must remind myself it’s worth the effort to crawl out from under my blankets.

Spendings Report: $1,105

Would it be bad to admit I was surprised at how little I spent this month? About $350 of that was me buying textbooks for my class because I teach the higher-level students and what I currently have isn’t advanced enough. In terms of spending for things that relate solely to me, I haven’t spent below $1,000 for a while now.

October’s report is gonna be a doozy, I bought an e-scooter and paid for a 20-time pass to my local bouldering gym. In my defence, I also pulled a lot of overtime because one of our teachers is out recovering from surgery so I knew I’d have extra $$$ coming in. No regrets in either case. Scooting and bouldering are both extremely fun. I’d like them to return to work though, the money isn’t worth the stress.

Net Worth Update: same as last month haha!

The markets are down but the amount I keep in cash has gone up. Hmm, maybe a change in the type of graph to see the proportion of cash vs. investments? That’s a thought for future-me.

I’ve got some major expenses planned in the next couple of years (surprise sabbatical!) so I won’t be contributing much to my investments outside of my TFSA and RRSP. I was hoping to hit $200k invested by the end of this school year but maybe before I’m 30 would be a more realistic goal.
