April has been a heck of a month filled with activity after activity. It brought with it a lot of change and challenges. It was as if life took the saying of “April Showers” a little too seriously and decided to squeeze in a year’s worth of waterworks into 2 weeks. BUT! I persevered and came out the other side a better person 🙂
First, a summary of the self-improvement goals I listed at the beginning of April.
Track every penny
Keep a food log
This was a huge success not in terms of me actually writing things down but in terms of me being more mindful about what I’m eating. I’ve reduced the number of processed foods and also the instances of snacking.
Exercise
I kept this up for the first three weeks without fail, however, I decided to stop it in week 4 because life was getting REALLY stressful. I made the decision that 30min more sleep will do me more good than 30min of exercise. It worked out well. I see myself getting back into it after the dust has settled on my life changes.
Reflection
I recall reading once that as an adult it’s not that you face less problems, it’s that problems decrease in perceived severity. I feel that is certainly very true in my life. Life will never stop throwing curveballs, but I get better at handling them every time.
It’s technically the beginning of May as I write this reflection and I marvel at the passage of time. I’ve depended on the support of so many friends throughout this month and I am just incredibly grateful for them. I’ve said this to myself many times this year but I am truly so lucky to be where I am. The worst thing that could have happened was really just me staying where I was. It feels like my heart is swelling but not in a medical emergency way, but in a feeling lots of feelings kind of way.
You can’t do adulthood alone. It is the joy and privilege of life that you get to share it with other people.
